December 2016

I need to begin with an update concerning our always expanding Farm to School Program.  We are purchasing local organic fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis and have been for some time now. We are a member of the Statewide Farm to School Network.  Most recently we have been purchasing from Windham Farm and Food.  WFF deals with most of the local Organic Farmers in the area.  We are purchasing apples, potatoes, Squash, kale, and some wonderful greens.  We have showcased both Sweet Potatoes and fresh Kale in our Harvest of The Month taste test.  The children loved both recipes.  We also incorporate fresh local ingredients in many of our scratch recipes.

We served our annual Turkey Dinner for students and parents recently and had a great turn out for lunch.  We fed over 80 parents and over 140 children a great Turkey Dinner with all the fixins.  There was music playing and everyone had a wonderful time.  We always look forward to this meal to begin the Holiday season.

I would like to remind everyone we still offer a great Breakfast every morning from 7-8.  We have a great bunch of kids coming in for Breakfast now but would love to have more.  the menu changes daily and is quite extensive, everything from breakfast sandwiches to French toast with Vt. Maple Syrup.  So let us cook for you in the morning.  The cost is a mere 1.50 and free for our students that qualify for free or reduced meals.

Our point of sale system or lunch count system has been upgraded to allow parents to access their child’s account on-line and pay on-line.  Simply go to mymealtime.com set up your profile, you will need your child’s account number.  Contact the kitchen or my e-mail for the account number.  Please remember we do not allow charging of meals so please keep your account current.  Contact the kitchen at 875-6850 for account number or e-mail me at: jack.carroll@trsu.org anytime and I can help.

Sincerely,    Jack Carroll  Director, Food Services
